Teams & Developers

If you have a lot of great ideas, passion, and desire to build up AAWA, you should join one of our teams or committees. We have various teams that highlight different talents and provides a great opportunity for further individual development.

Event Support

A key part of AAWA is to represent our community in the field. This means that we are featured in as many book-related events to ensure that our voices are heard. These great tasks also require support from volunteers helping to manage AAWA booth and sales.

Job Description

We are in search of talented Bloggers who are able to generate engaging, original content for our website.

 

Bloggers will research topics and develop interesting posts that will appeal to our target audience, echoes our mission statement, and promotes the blog using social media, direct email, and other methods to alert and expand our readership. You should be a skilled, tech-savvy writer who can create appealing, insightful posts that will quickly capture the attention of our ever-growing audience. Successful Bloggers should also be team focused as well as self-motivated. You should be creative, adaptable, and analytical with excellent writing skills and a unique voice.

Blogger Responsibilities:

​

  • Generating, researching, and pitching ideas for posts.

  • Writing, editing, publishing, and promoting content.

  • Promoting new posts using advertisements, emails, social media, and other methods to alert and attract new readers.

  • Advocating and educating others about interests, products, or services.

  • Maximizing site traffic by utilizing Search Engine Optimization keywords.

  • Inviting other bloggers, experts, or other notable guests to contribute content to the webpage.

  • Monitoring responses to posts via the website, social media, or other platforms to better understand the audience.

  • Staying current on industry trends for possible opportunities to attract new readers or create stronger, more engaging content.

Blogger Requirements:

  • Active AAWA (African-American Writer's Alliance) Member.

  • Writing experience or familiarity with certain interests or a specific field.

  • Exceptional writing, research, and communication skills.

  • Creativity and adaptability.

  • Strong understanding of the target audience, AAWA Mission Statement and industry trends.

  • Proficiency with computers, especially content management software, social media platforms, MS Office, and SEO keywords.

  • A basic understanding of HTML (preferred)

  • Ability to sit and type for extended periods.

  • Available to participate in routine team meetings and workshops.

  • Ability to strategize with fellow team mates.

Event Coordinator

Job Description

We are searching for a talented and motivated Event Coordinator to organize our signature events. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for event preparations, such as choosing venues, reviewing event proposals,  developing announcements, submitting finance requests to the AAWA Treasury Team, and evaluating the success!

​

You should be well-organized and possess a sound knowledge of vendor management. Excellent communication and attention to detail skills are vital in this team driven role.

​

Responsibilities:

  • Review AAWA event calendar

  • Analyze Event Requests

  • Liaise with vendors, exhibitors, and stakeholders during the event planning process to ensure everything is in order.

  • Manage all event set-up, promotion, tear down, and follow-up processes.

  • Maintain the event budget.

  • Book venues, entertainers, photographers, and schedule speakers.

  • Conduct final inspections on the day of the event to ensure everything adheres to the client’s standards.

  • Assess an event’s overall success and submit findings.

  • Strategize and prioritize events.

  • Develop and send out AAWA monthly announcements.

  • Must attend routine team meetings, webinars and/or workshops.

​

Requirements:

  • Active AAWA Member.

  • Well-organized with excellent multi-tasking abilities.

  • Outstanding analyst and development skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or Public Relations is preferred.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with computers, especially content management software, social media platforms, MS Office.
